Xfinity Cable and Internet Services

On of the changes in the pay television marketplace for 2010 is the introduction of Xfinity cable TV.  What is Xfinity?  Basically, all areas that were previously served by Comcast cable will be moving over to this new name.  Comcast will still remain the corporate name, but all products marketed to the public will have this new name.

Comcast also says that areas sprorting Xfinity services will be the most recently upgraded, meaning they are able to get better TV and internet options.  For example, while many areas served by Comcast over the past few years only had a few dozen HD channels, all areas upgraded to Xfinity TV will now have at least 100 high definition channels.  Also if you are a big on demand fan, the new layout will certainly make you happy.  All Xfinity customers are now promised neary 20,000 on demand choices every month.  The nice thing with this is that there is a special website where if you are a Comcast customer you can log in and watch on demand content right from you laptop no matter where you are in the world.

The other big upgrade promised with the name change is the Xfinity internet speed being offered.  Comcast has been dealing with a lot of competition from Verizon with their fiber optic product called FiOS, which now offers blazing fast speeds to many customers in the Northeastern part of the United States as well as in California.  With the Xfinity upgrade, they are now offering speeds as fast as 50 Mbps, with the promise that this will be going as high as 100 Mbps in the next year or two.

The downside to this of course is the high price that comes along with the service.  Right now, the 50 Mbps serivce will run you more than $100 a month so you really have to have a good reason to subscribe to this kind of internet connection.
